Sports Massage

Not just for athletes, but also office workers with stiff necks

Sports massage helps prevent those persistent over-use injuries when used as part of your training regime. This allows you to concentrate on consistent training and is invaluable as a remedial treatment when you are injured, to get you back training as quickly as possible.

Or you may just want to reward yourself after a hard week at work with a deep, relaxing massage - a great way to soothe away stress and tension.

Athlete or office worker, I can sort out sore legs, that stiff aching back and neck so you can keep doing what you like to do!

Sports massage can aid in three areas of your training; recovery, rehabilitation and prevention. I use various techniques depending on your needs:

  • Deep stroking (effleurage) is a great way to warm and relax the muscles and identify specific areas of tension.
  • Friction is a deep technique, great for breaking down scar tissue and adhesions (knots).
  • Soft tissue release, a technique to release areas of acute soft tissue tension, can be very effective. Both active and passive movement is used on muscles, tendons or ligaments.
  • Trigger Point therapy (NMT) pressure applied to particular "spots" can release whole areas of tension within a muscle. A great preventative tool.
  • Muscle Energy Technique; Therapist and patient working together to stretch and relax muscles for increased range of movement
  • Neuromuscular Reeducation (NMR) is another technique involving movement to produce a deep stretch within the muscle.

I will combine some or all of these techniques into one massage treatment.
